Kiwanis International was founded by Allen S Browne. Dedicated to serving the children of the world, this global volunteer organization annually raises $133 million and dedicates more than 19 million hours to strengthen communities and help children. Through service projects and fundraisers, Kiwanis members improve their communities, make lifelong friendships and, most importantly, help children reach their full potential.

Kiwanis International offers three clubs for adults: Kiwanis, Aktion Club and Circle K International. Kiwanis clubs serve their communities through more than 152,000 service projects each year. Aktion Club is the only community service club for adults with disabilities. It provides members with opportunities to become integrated into their communities while developing initiative and leadership skills. CKI is the world’s largest student-led collegiate service organization, with clubs on college and university campuses in 17 nations and geographic areas.

Kiwanis offers three clubs for youth: Key Club, Builders Club and K-Kids. Key Club is the oldest and largest service organization for teens and teaches leadership through service to others. Builders Club provides students in their early teens with opportunities to develop leadership skills, improve self-esteem, increase civic engagement and learn life skills through service. K-Kids gives elementary school students opportunities to work together on service projects, develop leadership potential and create strong moral character.

Kiwanis offers programs for students: Terrific Kids, Bring Up Grades and Key Leader. Terrific Kids and Bring Up Grades, both for students age 6-12, teach children to plan, set goals, work with others and celebrate success. Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership retreat for teens.

ISABEL BRIANO

My experience with Key Club overall made my high school experience better. Even though I have only been in this club for 2 years, I feel that I have learned so much from being in this club. My first year in Key Club was filled with attending nearly every volunteering event. I loved going to events and helping people in whatever way I could, from chaperoning a school dance to cleaning books for low-income schools. I feel like this club really taught me to appreciate helping people, even in the smallest of ways. My experience with Key Club was also great because I was able to make more friends among my fellow members. The little community formed in Key Club my first was great and allowed me to lean on people I had previously never knew. Now during my second year, as President, I am learning the importance of managing a club. I feel like being on the board has helped me grow as a person in many aspects from gaining responsibility to gaining personal confidence. Being on the board helped me adapt to a more professional role while still being in a comfortable environment.
